Hey,
right now i m running a forum on $1/month hosting,
my forum got hacked twice,
so wanted to know which hosting is better shared or dedicated
and how much it Would cost,

If we select good reputed web hosting company, that will survive the purpose. Shared and dedicated servers will come to scene, depending upon bandwidth and size of website(and also usage of CPU limits of server). As per my knowledge I told this. But Amit will explain it in detail.

It depends on the traffic and if your forum got hacked then their is a reason behind this,whether the forum software you are using is not secured or the server is easily hackable..
I know one webhost company which sells the client database illegally and do all those nonsense stuffs.. Anyway if your traffic is pretty low then shared hosting will be good but as the growth occurs you have to buy a new plan.. I assume dedicated server will be much more expensive!

I suggest you dreamhost shared hosting. They good service.
My blog start to stop working daily one hour due to high traffic (1000 per day). I shift my blog to dreamhost, now work fine.

Shared Hosting Accounts generaly start at 1$/month to xx$/month and are the ones where your site is hosted on a server with numerous other websites. These accounts are not bad always but it depends on the web hosting company and how seriously they handle their clients. If they continiously monitor their sites and make sure the servers cannot be hacked then you should not worry.
Dedicated servers can also get hacked and are costly, starts at xxx$/month and you need to check out for costs, company background, clients number, customer support, timely responce, uptime etc.
