Getting backlinks for a website

Hey,
How does one generate more backlinks to a website? I understand you have to request people to link back to you, but I think it would make more sense if website related to your niche links back.
Does this mean you need to ask your competitors to link back to you?
How does one go ahead? Any Help!

Yes you are right, getting the backlinks from niche related sites is good for blogs. Try to find some Guest posting blog which is related to your niche. Publish the posts and get free traffic and backlinks to your site. This is the proven way to get quality backlinks.
And other way to get backlinks is commenting on Dofollow blogs. That might be helpful for some bloggers.
