If i Root my device, will warranty will be void

Hi Amit,

Thanks for the quick answer and really appreciate your help on my question on Samsung Galaxy S firmware addition.

One thing i want to ask is, I heard from differnt blogs that Samsung Galaxy S will be coming with Froyo i.e. Android 2.2 firmware update soon. So my question is, to get the latest update, do i need to install all the updates till that time sequentially?

Like, this JG4 has come now, so is it compulsory for me to update my phone with it to apply any firmware updates that will be coming in future? or if i ignore this update, i can directly insall coming updates?

And lastly, if i root my device, will warranty of my phone will be void?

Many thanks in Advance.

Regards,
Anoop.

Better take your set to an authorized service center of Samsung, and they will update the firmware/software free of cost (if under warranty).

First of all i would suggest you to select the right category while posting questions, like these all questions come under the Gadgets category.

Next regarding the warranty void there wont be any issues if you upgrade the firmware but if you root the device then yes the warranty would be void. The warranty in most cases is useful for people who have issues with the hardware of the device and software issues are just sorted by them by restoring to factory default. If you are able to root a device then for sure you know how to restore the device too, hence there is no need to worry about all these stuff.

Its better to try out rooting and play with all the features of the Galaxy S.

The Froyo 2.2 for Samsung Galaxy S is a upgrade from Eclair 2.1 for Galaxy S and would be released officially in September 2010. You can just ignore the current firmware upgrade and wait for the froyo.

There is no necessity for you to upgrade everything sequentially if you have already rooted your device. Once the phone is rooted, everything is in your hands. You can do what you prefer.

And yes, once you have rooted your device, the warranty of your phone will be void. You can’t go to a Samsung store to discuss or get it upgraded, but just take the help of forums or guides to do the further steps in future. If you haven’t rooted the device and wouldn’t want to take any risk, just wait for the official upgrade from Samsung and get it done at any store when it arrives.

rooting will ruin your warranty. why don’t you just wait for a while? froyo is nearly out.
